Galvanize Lines
The value of the zinc coating process in combating corrosion of the steel surface has grown to be a product feature demanded in ever-increasing quantities. The steel's corrosion resistance makes it ideal for applications such as air conditioning units, air ducts, metal ties, studs, siding, decking, roofing and culvert. CSI has two continuous galvanizing lines, with a total annual capacity of more than 800,000 tons.
Galvanized sheet is produced by taking cold rolled coil from the 5-Stand Cold Reduction Mill, heating in an annealing furnace and dipping the coil, while still hot, into a pot of molten zinc. As the coil leaves the pot, coating controls insure product specifications match customer requirements. CSI offers the widest range of gauge and width sizes, ranging from .010" to .174" in thickness, and widths of 24" to 60".
The management system governing the manufacture of CSI's products at the #1 and #2 Continuous Galvanizing Lines is ISO 9001:2015 certified.
In December 2022, CSI’s shareholder Nucor Corporation announced plans to open up a new #3 Continuous Galvanizing Line at CSI. The new galvanizing line will serve construction end markets in the western United States and is expected to have an annual capacity of 400,000 tons. With the addition of this new line, CSI will have a total hot dip galvanizing capacity of 1.2 million tons per year. The investment is expected to cost approximately $370 million and take 30 months to construct following regulatory approvals.
